 Siberian Forest Cats hail from Russia and are considered one of the oldest domestic cat breeds, with roots that may extend over a thousand years. Siberians adapted over centuries to have a waterproof triple coat to insulate against snow and ice. The siberian is considered a large cat, with males ranging between fifteen to twenty pounds.

By temperament, siberians are easy-going, affectionate, and like to be involved in all household activities.  They are generally good with dogs and other animals.  

Hypoallergenic  

Most cat allergies are caused by a protein known as fel d 1, which is found in the saliva.  When cats groom themselves, fel d 1spreads onto their fur and skin, and this protein can become airborne, triggering allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Siberians tend to produce lower amounts of fel d 1, which may reduce or eliminate allergic reactions in most allergy sufferers. For this reason they are considered a hypoallergenic breed.

Since fel d 1 levels can vary somewhat between cats, it is recommended to spend some time with any prospective kitten to test your own allergies.  It should be noted that some people are sensitive to other proteins in cat saliva which are still present even in siberians.
